GR-EX 2018 CONFERENCES

MAXIMO A. ROA | Chief of Dexterous Manipulation, DLR - German Aerospace Center

Abstract: Industry 4.0 enhances opportunities for introducing robotics in factories of all sizes, from SMEs to large companies. Using current technology on collaborative robots, compliant control and knowledge-based perception and planning, robotics can provide innovative solutions for challenging issues in production lines. Three use cases are presented and discussed: 1) automated shelf-picking for fulfilling orders on an logistics environment, 2) introduction of a humanoid robot for replacing humans in highly repetitive and physically demanding assembly tasks for aircraft manufacturing, and 3) automatic production of one-of-a-kind assemblies using integrated recognition, assembly planning and sensor-based execution.

THORSTEN HENKEL | Expert in Industrial Security Solutions, Fraunhofer Institute

Abstract: The 4. Industrial Revolution takes manufacturing of products back to its roots – the unique, tailor made product. While currently focussing on mass production, the vision of Industrie 4.0 promises competitive realisation of a small number of products, or even unique single products. The circle from handmade products towards comparable industrial products closes. The post-industrialised countries of Europe are going into the direction of a new, agile and globally competitive next phase of industrial production. Industrie 4.0 re-industrialises Europe. Within this scenario, data will become the crucial nucleus of any kind of business model or process. That means personal data from the end user will blend or even melt with construction data from the engineering domain and data form the shop-floor level of machine production lines. This leads directly to IT-security issues. Data-protection, protection of intellectual property and protection of the physical product against piracy will become crucial for the new business models. IUNO focusses on addressing IT-security issues of I4.0 based on four demonstrators covering nearly all aspects of IT-security challenges. From creation of machine identities over encryption, technologies towards real time tracking and tracing of production environments against IT-security threats – IUNO will address every kind of problem. Finally, IUNO will provide threat-models, risk-models and security policies along with methodological approaches to use them. Additionally IUNO will create a set of IT-security tools, tailor made for small and median companies in order to cope with all challenges of I4.0 on shop-floor-level.

CYBERSECURITY

Fundación ONCE, for Cooperation and Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities was born in February 1988, through resolution of the ONCE General Council, and was presented to society in September of that same year as an instrument for cooperation and solidarity of Spanish blind people towards other collectives of persons with disabilities to improve their life conditions. In addition to ONCE itself, as a founding entity, Fundación ONCE comprises, through its Board, highest governance body, the main organizations of persons with disabilities in Spain.

RUSS ANGOLD | CEO, Ekso Bionics

Abstract: Exoskeleton technology has come a long way over the past 12 years. What once was science fiction is now being used every day in hospitals, factories, and on construction sites. In this session hear Russ Angold discuss the evolution of exoskeleton technology and the applications and use cases for such innovative technology in manufacturing and construction, where exoskeletons are improving productivity, quality and safety, and helping to extend workers’ careers.

ROBOTICS FOR HEALTHCARE

AITOR MORENO FDZ. DE LECETA | Artificial Intelligence Department Manager, Ibermática

Abstract: Ibermática has been working for years as a technological provider of public and private entities for Healthcare. An example of this are the numerous R&D projects in eHealth promoted by its Institute of Innovation, i3B. Throughout the day, Ibermática will share its knowledge in Artificial Intelligence techniques applied to the advanced analysis of clinical records and their relationship with therapeutic efficiency. Examples of these are projects such as the generation of medical summaries based on unstructured data or advanced analytics applied to the survival level modeling.

INDUSTRIAL ROBOTICS

JUAN JOSÉ SOLA | Chief of RPAs, AESA

Abstract: With the entry into force of the new Spanish RPAS Regulation, RD 1036/2017, it opens a whole range of scenarios, which were forbidden with the previous law. Although this represents a host of new opportunities, it forces operators, designers, manufacturers, and training organizations, to comply with new requirements. For this reason, the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency, has released Acceptable Means of Compliance and Guidance Material.

UAS & AEROSPACE

ISABEL DEL POZO DE POZA | Expert ATM & Head of Department, Airbus Helicopters

Abstract: Airbus is leading various initiatives on Urban Air Mobility. And still an appropriate operational environment to enable UAM scenarios needs to be defined and agreed among different stakeholders. Key challenges will be the integration in the lower airspace, below 10000ft, where mainly the non-cooperative traffic is located with limited support of Air Navigation Services. Compared to the upper airspace (above 10000ft), the lower airspace will have to become more structured, specially looking at the expected growth in drone traffic. Potential review of the airspace classes classification, specially E and G, will be required as well as discussions around some key topics: adaptation of the instrumental flight concepts, delegation of separation provision to the vehicles, what degrees of automation and digitalization are needed both on ground and in the air, how to address spectrum and cybersecurity topics.

UAS & AEROSPACE

ANDREW HATELY | ATM Concept Expert, Eurocontrol

Abstract: CORUS is writing a ConOps for U-space. CORUS is a two year long project funded as exploratory research by Horizon 2020 through the SESAR 2020 work program, and is almost half way through. Its official title is “Concept of Operations for European UTM Systems” The CORUS consortium include DFS, DLR, DSNA, ENAV, HEMAV, NATS, Unify and UPC with EUROCONTROL as the coordinator. The CORUS ConOps will explain how the U-space services allow safe, secure, affordable drone operations.

UAS & AEROSPACE

GAURAV GENANI | CEO, Skel-Ex

This talk focuses on the future of exoskeletons, from the vantage point of today while keeping in mind learnings from the past. As we live in a time where such devices will become mainstream, we will discuss needs of real users as well as the subjective nature of this challenge. The main issues while using an exoskeletons in a practical setting will also be discussed, followed by the best strategies to tackle them. There will also be a demonstration of the latest SkelEx prototype - a non powered upper body exoskeleton for working in the front or overhead. Members of the audience will have the opportunity to try the device at the end of the talk. This talk will be interesting for those who want to develop themselves in the field of exoskeletons, or for those who are enthusiastic about modern robotics and their applications.
